Dawn Rhodes joined IU Indianapolis in 2008 as the Vice-Chancellor for Finance and Administration. She formerly worked in executive leadership at the University of Toledo and Savannah State University. She spent fifteen years at the University of Toledo in various leadership roles. During her tenure at IU Indianapolis, Rhodes earned wide acclaim for her efforts to effectively administer IU Indianapolis's budget. In 2009 she was awarded a "Brick" Award from Division of Student Life and the USG Administrator of the Year award.
Rhodes is a past member of the Annual Meeting Program Committee of the Central Association of College and University Business Officers (CACUBO). In 2008 she became the CACUBO Board Director, and has also served on the board of NIFS, the National Institute of Fitness at Health, headquartered at IU Indianapolis. She left IU Indianapolis in 2015 to become Chief Business and Finance Officer and Vice President at University of Maryland, Baltimore.
