Elizabeth Jones taught at the School of Physical Education and Tourism Management for 30 years. From 1998 to 2004, she served as chair of the Department of Physical Education. When she retired in 2013, she held the titles of Associate Professor of Tourism, Conventions, and Event Management and Adjunct Professor of Women’s Studies.
During her career at IU Indianapolis, Jones served on over 100 IU Indianapolis, school, and departmental committees. These included promotion & tenure, student affairs, assessment, diversity, and curriculum. Most recently, she served on the Office for Women Advisory Committee, General Studies Faculty Advisory Committee, and General Education Common Core Task Force.
As chair of the committee that wrote IU Indianapolis's revised Principles of Undergraduate Learning, Jones played a leading role in designing the new principles and implementation guidelines. Jones also participated in critical thinking workshops to brainstorm the revised principles, which were approved by the Faculty Council in May 2007.
During her years at IU Indianapolis, Jones was the recipient of 5 Excellence in Teaching Awards from the Department of Athletics (1998-2000, 2005-6) and a 2006 Indiana University Trustees Teaching Excellence Recognition Award from the IU Indianapolis School of Continuing Studies. She also received 2 IU Indianapolis Integrative Department Grants (2008-9 and 2009-10) and the IU Indianapolis Student Learning Assistant Grant (2009). She won the Best Assignment Award - Society & Cultural Principle as part of the 10th Anniversary of the Principles of Undergraduate Learning in 2008.
