Deputy Director of Athletics & Senior Woman Administrator, 2014-2018
Gail Barksdale has been a member of the IU Indianapolis staff since 2011, when she was chosen to fill the role of Associate Director of Athletics & Senior Woman Administrator. In 2014, Barksdale became Deputy Director of Athletics. Barksdale manages the department’s operations, which comprise 18 sports, over 75 employees, and more than 250 student athletes. Barksdale also serves as Senior Woman Administrator to the NCAA and Summit League.
Barksdale represents IU Indianapolis on several national and conference committees, including the NCAA Strategic Vision & Planning Committee, NCAA Walter Byers & Jim McKay Scholarship Committee, and the Educational Professional & Development Committee of the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletic Administrators. Barksdale is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Minority Opportunities Athletics Association. On campus, Barksdale is a member of the 2015 IU Indianapolis Diversity Cabinet and the Office for Women Advisory Council.
Barksdale graduated from the NACDA Mentoring Institute and NACWAA Leadership Enhancement Institute. She is a member of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics, Division I AAA Athletic Directors Association, MOAA, and NACWAA. Barksdale came to IU Indianapolis from Georgia State University, where she oversaw operations for women’s basketball, men’s and women’s soccer, and men’s and women’s tennis.
