Professor of Social Work
Irene Queiro-Tajalli, the Executive Director of Undergraduate Education at the School of Social Work, is passionate about helping others. She has taught at IU Indianapolis since 1980. Queiro-Tajalli's research focuses on multiculturalism, aging, community activism, and Latino culture. A native of Argentina, she is an active volunteer in organizations promoting Latino interests in social work. She is chair of the Latino Social Worker Division of the Human Service Providers Network of Indiana. Queiro-Tajalli is also current president of the DANESH Institute, an Indiana organization promoting Iranian culture. Her interest in Iranian culture stems partly from the years she spent in the country while working on her master's degree.
Besides serving actively in community and professional organizations, Queiro-Tajalli has been an active contributor to her department and university. Beginning in 2001, she has created and developed online courses for the School of Social Work. She is a member of the Chancellor's Diversity Cabinet.
Queiro-Tajalli has received numerous awards for her achievements in social work and promoting diversity including a 2009 Torchbearer Award from the Indiana Commission on Women. She was the 2009 recipient of the Joseph T. Taylor Award for Excellence in Diversity at IU Indianapolis, an award recognizing her efforts at incorporating multiculturalism into her classroom, administration, and research.
