Karen Bravo, J.D., LL.M. joined the faculty of the Robert H. McKinney School of Law in 2004. Bravo focuses her research on regional integration, labor liberalization, person-hood, and human trafficking. She also manages graduate studies and international programs as Associate Dean for Graduate Studies and International Affairs.
Bravo is widely recognized as one of the top scholars in the study of human trafficking. In 2015, she organized the first global conference on slavery. “Slavery Past, Present and Future” was held at Mansfield College, Oxford University in July. In addition, Bravo was recently invited to contribute to an online symposium on human trafficking hosted by the American Society of International Law. In 2008, Bravo’s syllabus for the course “Illicit International Markets” was selected by The Protection Project of Johns Hopkins University as a model syllabus for integrating the subject of human trafficking into higher education learning. Bravo is active in several international law organizations, and is currently serving a 1 year appointment to the ABA Central European and Eurasian Law Initiative. She is also serving a 3 year term on the ASIL Executive Council.
At IU Indianapolis, Bravo has made a difference in her work as Associate Dean for Graduate Studies & International Affairs. Bravo co-chairs IU Indianapolis Next Generation 2.0, a leadership and professional development program for women and underrepresented minority faculty and staff. The program offers leadership training with an aim to develop a diverse pool of talent at IU Indianapolis. Bravo is a dedicated professor, who won a 2008 Indiana University Trustees’ Teaching Award.
Bravo graduated with a J.D. from Columbia University School of Law. She also holds a LL.M. from New York University School of Law.
