Associate Professor of Biology
Kathleen Marrs, Ph.D. has been a member of the Department of Biology faculty since 1998. She researches biology education and ways to reinforce lecture content to help students retain material. Marrs also researches methods to help students develop the intellectual skill needed to understand scientific concepts and processes.
Marrs currently serves as director of the Woodrow Wilson Indiana Teaching Fellowship Program, a program that seeks to place talented individuals in the STEM fields into teaching roles at troubled Indiana high schools. She also directs the School of Science's Interdisciplinary Studies Program, which allows students to customize their majors to fields that lack specific degree programs. Marrs is the former Director of UCASE, a program that helps obtain grants that increase the number of STEM teachers in Indiana in high need school districts. The program is a partnership between the School of Science and the School of Education. She currently sits on the steering committee.
Marrs is a 2008 winner of the Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching. She has received many other awards.
