Interim Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs
Kathy Johnson, Ph.D. has been a member of the faculty at IU Indianapolis since 1993. In 2011, she became the first woman Dean of University College. She was also appointed to the position of Associate Vice Chancellor for Undergraduate Education. Johnson currently serves as Interim Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.
Johnson served as department chair for the Department of Psychology from 2008 to 2011. She researches language and cognitive development of infants and young children. She has directed the Cognitive Learning Laboratory at IU Indianapolis since 1994. She also coordinates life span development courses for the Department of Psychology.
In addition to her scholarly pursuits, Johnson has served IU Indianapolis by participating in numerous projects and committees. In 2007 she served as a Faculty Fellow in Academic Affairs charged with chairing the task force to change IU Indianapolis's honors program into an honors college. From 2000 to 2004, she served as secretary, then chair, of IU Indianapolis's Student Affairs Committee. She was also a member of the founding team of the IU Indianapolis Gateway Project, which designed initiatives to improve student learning and retention in first-year courses with high enrollments. She currently serves on the Housing Advisory Group and the Council on Undergraduate Retention and Graduate Steering Committee.
Johnson serves as a reviewer to several professional journals and federal grant agencies. She has won many awards including a 2006 IU Trustee Teaching Award and a 2003 Outstanding Female Faculty Award.
