Director, IU Indianapolis Multicultural Center, 2013-Present
A leader in diversity policy on campus, Khalilah Shabazz, Ph.D. serves as Director for the IU Indianapolis Multicultural Center. Shabazz is tasked with promoting diversity and broadening multicultural awareness on campus. As Director, she oversees daily operations, plans programs, and contributes her vision to the center’s future development plans. Shabazz utilizes a holistic approach to diversity education at the center, which includes transparency and engagement in building relationships and fostering multicultural awareness. Shabazz’s efforts as Director address the needs of IU Indianapolis faculty, staff, and students of underrepresented and diverse backgrounds.
In addition to her work at the Multicultural Center, Shabazz teaches courses on diversity and multiculturalism for the IU Indianapolis Africana Studies program, the Criminal Justice department, and University College. She also conducts cultural competency workshops in the community.
Shabazz previously served as Director of Diversity Enrichment and Achievement Program within University College. In this role, she developed programs that promoted retention and success among underrepresented students. She also directed the allocation of resources and provided assistance to students in an effort to ensure their successful transition into IU Indianapolis.
