Kim Kirkland, Ph.D. served as the Director of the Office of Equal Opportunity at IU Indianapolis from 2008 to 2017. Previously, she worked in affirmative action for many years, first in private industry and later at Bowling Green State University in Ohio. Kirkland is an expert in the state and federal laws governing compliance, and at IU Indianapolis, she monitored the university's compliance with anti-discrimination and anti-harassment law and policy.
Kirkland's belief that fairness is at the heart of an institution's ability to be successful influenced her work as the Director of the Office of Equal Opportunity. She ran the office by utilizing a strategy of both monitoring affirmative action progress at the university and developing outreach programs for women and minorities. Kirkland left IU Indianapolis in 2017 to become Executive Director for Equal Opportunity and Access at Oregon State University.
