Professor of Medical and Molecular Genetics
Kimberly Quaid, Ph.D. joined the Indiana University School of Medicine as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medical and Molecular Genetics and psychiatry in 1990. Quaid researches the ethics of genetic testing. She teaches a campus-wide course in research ethics and has written extensively on the topic. Quaiddirects the Indiana University School of Medicine Predictive Testing Program, an initiative that offers genetic counseling and testing for individuals at risk for Huntington Disease, Alzheimer's Disease, and other autosomal disorders. She is also a faculty investigator for the Indiana University Center for Bioethics and the Co-Director of the Masters Program in Genetic Counseling in the Department of Medical and Molecular Genetics.
Quaid is the former Director of the Office for Women (1998-2001). Before that, she served as Assistant Director for 2 years. Quaid is also former chair of the IU Indianapolis Ethics in Research Committee (1998-2003), which investigates allegations of scientific misconduct. She served as a member of the IU Indianapolis Institutional Review Board from 2002-2006. She also chaired the Ethical, Legal and Social Implications Study Section of the National Human Genome Research Institute of the National Institutes of Health from 2005-2007.
