Director, Center on Earth and Environmental Science, 1999-2011
Lenore Tedesco, Ph.D. was a member of the faculty of the Department of Geology from 1991 to 2011. In 1999, she became director of the Center on Earth and Environmental Science. Tedesco also held appointments as an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Schools of Informatics and Education. She is a past associate chair of the Department of Geology and served as program director of the Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science degree program. Tedesco also coordinated interdisciplinary environmental research and education at IU Indianapolis and developed and coordinated school-age programming initiatives for the Discovering the Science of the Environment initiative.
Tedesco researches water resources, wetland and stream restoration, sedimentology, and sustainability. While at IU Indianapolis, she coordinated research on urban ecological restoration in Indianapolis. Tedesco was active in Indianapolis community affairs, especially as they related to her environmental research. She served as the director of the Central Indiana Water Resources Partnership and served on numerous boards of directors, including the Indiana Solid Waste Management Board, the Indiana Department of Environmental Management Wetland Science Advisory Group, Indiana State Water Monitoring Council, and City of Indianapolis Green Commission. She also served as an advisor to Veolia Water Technical Advisory Group, Indianapolis Children's Museum, Indiana State Museum, Indianapolis Department of Parks and Recreation, WFYI, and the town of Fishers.
Tedesco received numerous awards at IU Indianapolis, including a 2006 IU Trustees Teaching Award, a 2005 Chancellor's Faculty Award for Civic Engagement, and a 2003 Outstanding Female Faculty Award. Tedesco left the university in 2011 to become Executive Director of the Wetlands Institute in Stone Harbor, New Jersey.
