Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, School of Liberal Arts
Marianne Wokeck, Ph.D. has been a member of the faculty at IU Indianapolis since 1991. A Professor of History, she also serves as an adjunct faculty member of Women's Studies, New Media, and University College. She also serves as an Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in the School of Liberal Arts. As an Associate Dean, she is involved in planning and reviewing academic standards, curriculum, and procedures at the school.
Wokeck's research interests in history vary widely. She studies colonial and revolutionary history, the Atlantic world 1500-1800, women in history, and immigration and ethnicity. Besides authoring books and articles of her own creation, Wokeck is interested in the scholarly editing of historical documents. She has been a member of the Santayana Edition at IU Indianapolis, a project to edit the works of George Santayana, since 1999. She has been director of the project since 2004. Previously, Wokeck has experience as an editor for the papers of William Penn. She was also the founding editor and director of the Biographical Dictionary of Early Pennsylvania. From 2001 to 2007, she served as the editor of the Journal of the Association for Documentary Editing. From 1997 to 1998, Wokeck studied in Germany as a Fulbright Senior Scholar.
Wokeck is the recipient of numerous awards. She has twice been awarded the IU Indianapolis Outstanding Female Faculty award. She was awarded with a Chancellor's Professorship in 2009.
