Emeritus Associate Professor of Library and Information Science
Marilyn Irwin, Ph.D. joined Indiana University in 1998 as an associate professor. From 1993 to 1998, she served as a librarian for IU Libraries. Irwin began teaching courses in the Indianapolis division of the School of Library and Information Science in 2002, and served as the Executive Associate Director from 2007 to 2010. As Executive Associate Director, she oversaw the daily administrative functions of the school.
Irwin's research focused on access to information for people with disabilities. From 1984 to 2005, she served as director of the Center for Disability Information and Referral at the Indiana Institute on Disability and Community at Indiana University Bloomington. At IU Indianapolis, Irwin's research resulted in a partnered project with the School of Education to win a special grant for training education students for careers in special media. The 2004 grant from the Institution of Museum and Library Sciences provided funds for IU Indianapolis to recruit professors with a background in training school media specialists.
Irwin retired in 2014.
