Mary Fisher, Ph.D. has distinguished herself at IU Indianapolis as a dedicated teacher and administrator. Since arriving at the university in 1989, Fisher has worked with students at the undergraduate, master's, and PhD levels. She was instrumental in developing nursing web-based courses and redesigning the School of Nursing's M.S.N. curriculum to conform to Problem-Based Learning methods. As a result of these changes, the nursing program received its first ever national ranking by US News and World Report and more than doubled its enrollment.
Fisher is the former chair of the School of Nursing Department of Environments for Health. She has served on many committees at IU Indianapolis, including the Electronic Portfolio Project, First Year Experience Assessment, and served as the IU Indianapolis Liaison to the IU Faculty Colloquium for Excellence in Teaching from 2006-2008. She was also the president of the Faculty Council from 2002-2004.
In 2006, Fisher's extraordinary teaching abilities were recognized when she received the IU President's Distinguished Teaching Award. In 2008, she was appointed Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. In this position, she continues to work to improve educational opportunities for IU Indianapolis students.
