Professor of Education, 1999-2012
Nancy Chism, Ph.D. was a professor of higher education and student affairs in the IU School of Education at IU Indianapolis from 1999 to 2012. She instructed the school's doctoral students in higher education administration.
Chism joined the faculty of IU Indianapolis in 1999 with administrative appointments as the Associate Vice-Chancellor for Professional Development and an Associate Dean of the Faculties. She held these positions until 2006, when she stepped down to pursue her research and teaching interests. Chism was active on many IU Indianapolis committees, including the Conflict of Interest Committee, the Distance Education Committee, and the Teaching Learning Systems Committee. She was also a member of the Chancellor's Diversity Cabinet.
In 2008, Chism took a leave of absence from IU Indianapolis to spend five months in Thailand as a Fulbright Scholar. She consulted with the Thai Commission on Higher Education on issues of professional and organizational development for colleges and universities.
Chism received numerous awards at IU Indianapolis including a 2006 Spirit of OPD Award from the IU Indianapolis Office of Professional Development, the Joseph T. Taylor Award for Excellence in Diversity in 2005, and Outstanding Faculty Woman Leader of the Year in 2004. She retired in 2012.
