Obioma Nnaemeka, Ph.D.
Chancellor's Professor of French, Women's Studies, and Africana Studies
An internationally recognized expert on the African Diaspora, African women, developing nations, globalization, multiculturalism, and human rights,Obioma Nnaemeka's expertise spans many fields of study. She is a widely-sought consultant for the United Nations, many foreign governments, and international agencies. She serves on the board of directors of several international nongovernmental organizations and serves on the advisory boards of a number of scholarly journals. Nnaemeka is widely published in her areas of expertise.
Nnaemeka is the founder and current president of the Association of African Women Scholars, headquartered at IU Indianapolis. She is responsible for creating and overseeing the Women in Africa and the African Diaspora international conference. Nnaemeka is also a past director of the Women's Studies program at IU Indianapolis.
Dr. Nnaemeka's passion for education and educational opportunities for African women led her to become the president and CEO of the Jessie Obidiegwu Educational Fund, a charity designed to help African women and girls receive education. Nnaemeka was the first recipient of the IU Indianapolis Women's Studies Faculty Achievement Award. She was named a Chancellor's Professor in 2009.
