As Associate Dean for the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion within the IU School of Dentistry, Pamella Shaw, DMD, MPH works diligently to increase recruitment and retention of minority students, faculty, and staff. Shaw is the first full-time Associate Dean at the dental school devoted exclusively to diversity efforts. She strategizes effective programs to increase minority applicants and leads the creation of mentoring and enrichment programs focused on retention. Shaw also seeks funding sources to aid minority enrollment, from private donors and granting agencies to public legislative and governmental sources.
In addition to her work as Associate Dean, Shaw serves on the administration team for the Louis Stokes Midwest Center of Excellence at IU Indianapolis. She coordinates efforts to help baccalaureate students prepare for graduate coursework in STEM. The center works to increase minority participation in STEM careers.
Shaw previously served as Assistant Provost at Purdue University, where she was charged with oversight across all campuses for the Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation Indiana and the Midwest Crossroads Alliance for Graduate Education and the Professoriate. Both programs were designed to increase participation in STEM fields among minority students.
