Professor Emeritus of Pediatrics, Indiana University School of Medicine, 2017-Present
A highly respected pediatric dermatologist and professor, Patricia Treadwell, MD taught medical students at the Indiana University School of Medicine from 1983 to 2017. During her tenure at IUSM, Treadwell was a champion of student success. She served as a faculty advisor for senior medical students and for the Pediatric Residency Program. Treadwell also volunteered for the Woman Faculty/Student Mentoring Program and served as the Faculty Director for the Office of Medical Service Learning.
In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Treadwell served as Chief of Pediatric Dermatology for Riley Hospital for Children from 1987 to 2004. She continues to work as a pediatrician for the Comprehensive Sickle Cell Center at Riley Hospital and holds active appointments as a medical staff member at both Indiana University Hospitals and Wishard Memorial/Eskenazi Hospital.
Treadwell has published over 40 scientific papers, monographs, and book chapters on pediatric dermatology. She has also held leadership positions in medical organizations and on professional boards. Treadwell currently serves as Vice President of Marketing & Communications for the Society for Pediatric Dermatology.
During her career, Treadwell received numerous awards, most notably a 2004 Indiana Commission for Women Torchbearer Award. She was also the recipient of a Trustee Teaching Award (2003), a Breakthrough Woman Award presented by the Coalition of 100 Black Women (2016) and the Alvin H. Jacobs Award (2015) for her work in pediatric dermatology. The Office of Diversity Affairs at the Indiana University School of Medicine recently organized the Dr. Patricia Treadwell Women in Medicine Series in her honor.
