Director, Office of Health and Wellness Promotion, IU Indianapolis Division of Student Affairs, 2015-Present
As the first Director of the Office of Health and Wellness Promotion, Shawnte Elbert, MA, MCHES, TTS oversees 6 key aspects of wellness on campus. She provides oversight and strategic leadership over the department’s efforts to promote physical, emotional, social, intellectual, environmental and spiritual wellness. Elbert has been instrumental in implementing programming for alcohol and drug prevention and sexual assault prevention and education. Elbert came to IU Indianapolis with a wealth of experience in health and wellness education, and has effectively applied her knowledge to support students on campus.
In addition to her work as Director, Elbert holds faculty appointments with the IU Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health in the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences and the IU School of Liberal Arts. She serves as a subject matter expert in the fields of health and wellness, peer education, and public education. She also teaches courses in health and educational leadership. Within the School of Liberal Arts, Elbert is currently leading a themed learning community on Religions, Conflict and Peace.
