Senior Advisor to the Chancellor for Academic Planning and Evaluation
Trudy Banta, Ph.D. joined the faculty of IU Indianapolis in 1992 as a Professor of Higher Education and Vice-Chancellor for Planning and Institutional Improvement. She had already gained a national reputation as an expert in assessment, and used her knowledge to improve courses and programs at IU Indianapolis. As Vice-Chancellor, Banta provided oversight for accreditation self-studies and NCAA division sports programs. She also helped deans across campus evaluate the effectiveness of their academic programs. In addition, Banta oversaw a number of new initiatives, including the establishment of the electronic portfolio faculty assessment tools developed by Sharon Hamilton of the IU Indianapolis Department of English. Banta has written numerous articles and books on assessment and has served on national advisory panels.
In 2008, Banta was recognized by the National Consortium for Continuous Improvement in Higher Education for building "a culture of evidence to improve learning at IU Indianapolis." In 2009, she was named an IU Indianapolis Outstanding Woman Faculty leader. She currently serves as Senior Advisor to the Chancellor for Academic Planning and Evaluation.
