As Dean of the Herron School of Art and Design, Valerie Eickmeier, Ph.D. oversees the operation and guides the vision of Indiana University's nationally acclaimed public art program. Eickmeier is a widely-acclaimed sculptor and has taught at Herron since 1982. In 2005, she was identified by Dialogue Magazine as one of the midwest's "Top 25 Most Influential People in the Arts."
In 1995, Eickmeier became Associate Dean of Herron. In 1999, she became Dean. As Dean, Eickmeier was instrumental in planning and overseeing Herron's historic move to IU Indianapolis's campus. The art school relocated from its previous off-campus home into a new, state-of-the-art facility on New York Street in 2005. Eickmeier has also been influential as a leader on campus, promoting such plans as the Campus Art Action Plan to share artwork with IU Indianapolis students across campus.
Eickmeier is the recipient of national awards, including two National Endowment for the Arts Special Project Grants, and an Individual Artist Fellowship and Creative Renewal Grant from the Indiana Arts Commission.
